MOSCOW, Dec 31 (PRIME) – Russia and Ukraine have settled all their gas problems by signing a five-year transit contract, under which Gazprom guarantees pumping of 65 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas in the first year and 40 bcm in the next four years, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on Tuesday.
“The gas contract for the next five years between Russia and Ukraine is a compromise, which had to be found,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
He said that the Russian government and Gazprom have long been working on the problem both with Ukraine and the E.U.
“Now all the problems are settled, recriminatory claims terminated. Russian gas transit through Ukraine will continue on the terms, which suit all the sides,” Medvedev said. “The signing of the documents demonstrates that we can talk and agree even on difficult issues.”
